The gold ring that wasn’t.

A few weeks ago i noticed a shiny gold ring out in the busy 4 lane street in town . I whipped in the adjacent parking lot and came back up to where i thought it was . After getting out of my truck and looking around i saw it out there shining in the light . The spot it was in was over a hill a couple hundred yards from a stop light so i had to make the retrieval quick .
With no cars in sight i ran out and tried grabbing it . It was 2/3 buried in the asphalt and stuck like glue .
So i left it thinking I’d come back in the dark with pliers . It took 2 weeks for me to drive by and remember it was there .
So i went after work that night with pliers and a screwdriver in my pocket . The screwdriver got it pried loose and in my hand before the next car was coming over the hill .
Ended up cleaning all the asphalt off with orange hand cleaner .
It does stick to a magnet so it’s just junk .
But i couldn’t pass up the chance it was real .
I didn’t get any pics in the road as i was worried about getting plowed over .

Oh well, an "almost" gold ring is still a nice find. I would have done the same thing.

Sounds like someone pulled a prank on you. I knew some kids back in the day who would embed coins in the asphalt of the street outside the candy store and they would laugh as people tried to pick them up only to discover they were essentially part of the street. Those coins stayed there for a long time.

I had thought about putting it back where i found it just to see how long it stays.
