I got on the internet to look up Michael B. It is inscribed inside the ring and I believed it to be the maker. I was correct!
I e-mailed a retail jeweler that sells his rings and asked for a quote on the ring , saying I had seen one and was interested in a possable purchase. I also called a major retailer in Chicago to ask the same question.

First call was from the New York jeweler. Said the ring has 1.2 ct of diamonds, 5 mm wide, pt 900. Retail is 8,000.00 but they could special order one for 6,600.00

Then the Chicago jeweler called said retail is 10,600.00 and they could order one for 8,600.00 plus tax so about 9,400.00. LOL

I thanked each of them very much and said it was a little above my price range. Yea more like WAY ABOVE!!!!

Thanks for all the complements. That is a once in a life time find.

Chicago Ron

P.S. Any one want a Micheal B for 50% off!!! LOL

Hi Ron!

Incredible ring! Hard to believe that someone lost something that valuable! Well, I guess you can retire from metal detecting now! ;D

Thanks for all the congrats folks, and may each of you get to feel this feeling!!!!!!

I contacted the designers studio and told them I had found one of there rings in Chicago and asked if there was any way to find the owner. As there was no name or inscription inside the ring.
The person on the phone said they would have to check and would get back to me. He took my number that was 2 1/2 weeks ago, I'm assuming there is no way or noone they contacted lost one. The jeweler in Chicago said there office has only sold 2 of them. So it must have been someone on vacation.

Guess that leaves it to me.

I did take it in for an apprasel, replacement cost 9,500.00

If you were to get ahold of one of the owners that bought one from that jeweler, is there any way to prove that the one you found is the one you bought? I mean, a dishonest person could claim they lost their ring...

W :o W!! that is gorgeous! way above my price range too! lol a dream find for sure!

Very nice ring

Now, I read a post here a few weeks back where the poster put up a pic and location. He was sued for the ring back, and had to give it up.

Moral of the story, be careful out there. Maybe it's not such a good idea to post the biggies. You give enough info, and they can falsely make a case.

Might be an interesting "listen" for all of you:

In the Corner with Dan Hughes

All kinds out there and they want what you have!

I'll likely never post a major find.....

Deepseeker that is ridiculous . We post thousands of finds here on t-net. Some are returned to the owners. A ring like this unless engraved with the person name id finders keepers. The link you provided is to some homemade web site of a metal detecting web site and the video did not work. Dont be a debbie downer.
Great ring will it clean up well enough to sell for some of it's value?

His site seems down right now, couldn't play it myself. Not trying to be a downer, just urging caution on being too specific. We all need a little caution. But I certainly enjoy reading these posts like this!

So many zombie threads being bumped today. How come?

Hey everyone, I love reading everything posted - when I'm not getting my knees dirty. The link from Dan Hughes is about Karl Van Mueller telling one of his stories. Us OLD people remember the tales of Karl. The Dan Hughes site seems down right now. It's a podcast of Karl's book talking about a guy who found a cache, and he gave enough information for someone else to put together a suit, based strictly on the finder's story.

As stated above, I love these finds you all have! Reason I wrote that downer = Chicago Ron, a common expensive ring, Chicago - land of the recipient class looking for their own treasure - a corrupt legal system full of lawyers wanting a cut....

Let's be cautious.... Absolutely certainly tell us your finds. But protect yourself please. There's enough recipients we feed out there already. Try the link again later, if it ever comes back, and it's a good story.

Very nice ring, but most jewelers have a HUGE markup when it comes to rings. Im not saying its not worth a pretty penny or two, but every one needs to realize that a lot of the price for jewelry is markup. My wife has at least 300 rings (a lot I have bought), so Im very aware of the markups. We have had people say I paid this much at this place, but they want almost that same price. Take it to a pawn shop and see what they give you and then what they will sell it for. Markup !

But still a very nice ring :)
