The Sentinels

In many of these legends regarding the Spanish and Jesuit's activities in America, and Vaults and such, there is constant mention of Sentinels.
My questions: Who or what are these Sentinels. What do they do? What are their goals and purpose?
Has anyone actually encountered one?

Just basically guards to protect the fabulous rich buried KGC treasure from greedy cowans. Not really anything to worry about, though.

Sentinels watch over the vaults they will replace monuments and markers when needed but not to the extent of misplacing the vault. They are very deceiving they are very conniving a lot of people do not believe in them I have seen great debates over this but they do exists.
