Went out to my favorite spot again two nights ago and found a 1943 mercury dime, and a few clad. Was getting dark and hit a good signal, dug it deep and got an 1894 Barber Quarter! I refilled the hole and went home happy! Last night I went back to the same area and found a piece of sterling metal as it is marked "sterling" but don't know what it is or was. A few minutes later I got a another good signal and saw where I dug the Barber the night before, it was the same area. Right on top I got a 1943 Mercury dime, in the actual same home I got another good signal, took out the dirt from the night before I had dug and blam: a Standing Liberty quarter (date worn off) got another signal over it a 1938 Wheatie. So I figured this to be a coin spill from roughly 1940. I didn't check the hole when I left the first time. Always re-check the whole no matter what you find! Lesson learned.

I had a piece like that which I used to attach a bracelet to my jeans pocket. could have been used for a pocket watch. nice barber!

Very nice finds! :icon_thumleft:

The Standing Liberty quarter is either a 1916 or 1917 as it is "Variety 1, no stars below eagle"

Any chance you can see the remnants of a "6"? ???

HH all!

Greg

Well, after closer inspection I can see a mintmark on the Standing Liberty quarter which means it has to be a 1917 because 1916 quarters were only minted in Philadelphia.

HH all!

Great looking silver finds Prof! :notworthy: I particularly like this item, as cntrydncr1 mentioned, it might be from a pocket watch chain. Though I used to collect pocket watches and their accessories and I've never seen this type of item before :icon_scratch:. Might very likely have come from a Victorian ladies chatelaine. :icon_thumright:

Sweet variety of good oldies. I've made the same mistake as well. Always re-check your holes. I wonder how many pocket spills have gone un-noticed in the past. ???

Are you sure it is 1916?
