From time to time, DrDetector and I get together for a hunt; typically, on my part, nothing of significance is found
. For a long time today, it appeared that my performance with the good Doctor would be, again, abysmal. I had found a wheat, a couple memorials and a dime on top of the driveway when I asked this question: "Have you ever detected outside the hedges before?" DrDetector has been searching this particular property on and off for eight years, and has found some really old coins on it; it may soon be sold and in the hands of another owner, so he wanted to make sure it had been thoroughly searched. Anyway, the answer to my question was "not really." There's nothing I like more in detecting than unsearched territory, so that's where I headed. Pretty soon I had two more wheats, from the same hole, then another. Finally, a 40 Merc appeared, then a 35. Another wheat or two and a 59 Rosey surfaced. Meanwhile, DrDetector had harvested seven or eight wheats, including a 17 and 26, but mine were to be the only silvers (at least until I left). Hopefully, he added one or two of his own. Along the row where I found the three dimes, I got two quarter signals; they turned out to be clad.
While I was hunting, a neighbor came over and asked if I was the new owner; I assured him that I was not and we got into a little conversation about the neighborhood. It turns out this house was the local firehouse 70-80 years ago, something even DrDetector didn't know. We knew it dated to about 1912, but that was all. My thanks to the good Doctor for the invite!
