From time to time, DrDetector and I get together for a hunt; typically, on my part, nothing of significance is found :'(. For a long time today, it appeared that my performance with the good Doctor would be, again, abysmal. I had found a wheat, a couple memorials and a dime on top of the driveway when I asked this question: "Have you ever detected outside the hedges before?" DrDetector has been searching this particular property on and off for eight years, and has found some really old coins on it; it may soon be sold and in the hands of another owner, so he wanted to make sure it had been thoroughly searched. Anyway, the answer to my question was "not really." There's nothing I like more in detecting than unsearched territory, so that's where I headed. Pretty soon I had two more wheats, from the same hole, then another. Finally, a 40 Merc appeared, then a 35. Another wheat or two and a 59 Rosey surfaced. Meanwhile, DrDetector had harvested seven or eight wheats, including a 17 and 26, but mine were to be the only silvers (at least until I left). Hopefully, he added one or two of his own. Along the row where I found the three dimes, I got two quarter signals; they turned out to be clad.
While I was hunting, a neighbor came over and asked if I was the new owner; I assured him that I was not and we got into a little conversation about the neighborhood. It turns out this house was the local firehouse 70-80 years ago, something even DrDetector didn't know. We knew it dated to about 1912, but that was all. My thanks to the good Doctor for the invite!

Cool! I'd take that over the three dimes any day! It's solid, right?

Yeah solid sterling. The handle is pretty straight but the cupped part is slightly warped from fire I think.

Fantastic Eyes and Nose, but your teeth look a little brown.... ;D

Good job, Henry!!

Nick, that's incredible! How did you recognize that car? You must elaborate and explain. Kind of like showing your work on a math test!

Very Nice Finds!! keep up the good work!!

WireBender (marcus) <--- also a smile doctor!! :) ;D

Nick, you're good!

It's an '82 240D, (W123 Chassis). Yeah it's me driving, one of my roommates/friends up close. Actually that picture was taken in Illinois last October. Darn right I drove a 25 year old car 600 miles away. Since you know your MBZs, here's the specs:

1982 Mercedes Benz 240D
2.4L 4 cyl. naturally-aspirated (non-turbo) diesel engine
Roughly 218,000 miles
All working gauges
passenger side mirror delete (I think that's the term for only having one mirror)
All original, including all four body-color matching hubcaps

Halfdime's ridden in it...not sure how he felt about it, some people like old cars some people don't feel safe (no air bags). Pretty nice ride still, even after 26 years. I'm looking to hopefully get classic plates for it coming up since it's my 'back-up' car. My daily driver is an '86 Jetta with over 345,000 miles.

Anyway, didn't mean to 'hijack' your thread HD...we had a great time detecting and hopefully we can go out this weekend or next week. I'll contact you.

It's all about the conversation, Dr! I didn't realize the other ride had so many miles on it. Nick knows his stuff, huh? You should taste his pastries!

I agree Henry, nothing better than the anticipation of hunting an unhunted site. 8)

Glad you got some keepers. Good luck this weekend.

Bob
