Hi all. Been deep in the forrest working mining camps near a place called Mt Hope ,Around these camps there lots of groves of California Pepper trees brought to the southern australian gold feilds by the 49ers.Sort of tree that grows quickly and grow well in poor soil conditions.More than lightly grow for shade from the belting heat of the full sun.In the hight of summer here the temp gets to 114 deg in the shade. As well as miners there where wine halls and taverns, charcoal makes and eucy oil makers. But to day no-one lives in the forrest. The Forrest is several state and national forrests linked together .The area covers about 140 square miles.Being a part of the gold feilds which cover 4000 square miles. We have access to 50% of this area.Public land.Finding the camps and mine sites is easy diggings and no-native trees stand out like a huge sign in the most native iron bark forrest. The shards of pottery and glass is spread all over the place. At the time of the gold rush nearly all use timber was cut down and used and its take over a 100 years for these forrests to grow back.Only motorbiker, horserider and locals use the forrest.City folk would have no idea about this place as there no major roads for miles. Some of the better known area have been MDED to death but theres so much that that hasn't been hunted. The deeper you go into the forrest the hard the condition get.You wouldn,t use the roads here when it rains they turn into a mud clay slurry that even 4x4 s are hard to control on.The best spots usually means a good hours walk and one be best to carry only what you need.Lumping around to much junk is a bad idea. This hard country
Minelab sd and gpx p1 units are designed for this type of ground.Get a small coil and turn your sensitivity right down. A genlte hum is noise you want to hear on targets.Tune the teaking out.
Well what can i say seems this medal i found is nearly the same as the one they have on display are the Australian national museum.

The best other finds i have got from this area was an american made carbide lamp and a gold nugget 21 grams. The lamp i found about 10 years ago and the nugget last year.
