Treasure baron with Goldtrax
Do you think this is possiable one man one bike one md and one month. For one month to travel using a bike and carrying a tent. You can only buy things with the money you find with your md or make offering a service using your md. I think this would be the ultimate md adventure do you ?

Ahhhh...if only I was 18 again..broke and no car..only a bike..lol I kinda think it would be one heck of a quick diet..Give it a shot and let us know how you do..

I think you will go hungry really really fast....
The most money I have ever found in a day, is $23.65 ? that was one time in 20 years
of hunting and I used to go out all the time...
Average for any given day is maybe $2 - 3 dollars....

Yep your going to go hungry....
I can feel your pain now...

ha ha ha

just make sure you get a solar battery charger before you go... you might not be able to buy batteries with the amount you'll find

Depends on the bike. Pedal or motorcycle? I could live off my clad but it might mean a lot of oatmeal and noodlepacks with local water dipped and boiled. And not paying to use a campground but staying "off-road".

A pedal bike

Neat idea. Some real Jack Kerouac stuff there.

I agree that you could starve on what you find, but what sort of services would you think might pay your way.

How about this instead. Budget $10 a day for food and hit the road for a month. If you dont find or make enough with your detector, then you can hit the local diner.

You can do it but you would need a map that shows parks and schools and you would need to be willing to hunt after dark. And to put in at least 8 hours of hunting in a day. It would be hard labor but you could do it.

possible services using your md might include searching for a particular persons lost poperty. I never heard of Jack Kerouac before today interesting gentleman. I am taking on board your suggestions I think I would be inclined to hit very easy targets first woodchip parks being no1. I would also attempt during summer months as this woulld be benificial in terms of weather and finds and lastely I guess I would beef up by aprox two stones I figure this would give a little margin for weight loss would I ever consider this proposal seriously Watch this space.

I would pick a route along resort beach areas. Time of year would matter. You could have some fun.

Keep a diary and possibly do some video taping.

I actually did this- 40 years ago when I was a teenager with no job(going to college). Of course I had no responsibilities at all- just me. However I had an old car and not a motorcycle.

I would head east from Ohio traveling thru Pa and Virginia just living off my finds. When I needed money for food or gas I would stop at a small town and detect around the parking meters. Most of the time I was detecting old sites for relics and coins and only detected the parking meters for traveling money. I camped out as I didn't want to spend the money and time detecting for abundant coinage.

Of course gas was 33 cents a gallon and food was cheap so I could easily do it. As most sites were virgin they were always great trips. Several weeks later I always returned just as poor as I started but with incredible coin and relic finds which I wouldn't have dreamed of selling.

I have fond memories of those trips- some of the best memories of my youth but it is something you could not do today with today's prices.

Like the last post, I don't believe you could do it in the US,
But I do think you could do it on the coasts of Europe.
The Euro comes out in several large coins of the $5 and $10 denominations if I'm right.
Gas is really expensive, but if you used a Bicycle, that would be a mute point.
Lots more gold jewelry on those beaches as well, with most of it 18k..
you would have to find a local buyer to get cash for that, but gold is usually bought and
sold just about everywhere.

What do others think about Europe ?
