Then where CAN you MD?

Hi all
I have been a fly on the wall reading and reading and reading present/past posts on MDing. I am buying my 1st MD this week and I gotta tell you... Why spend BIG money when it looks like the laws keep me in my yard? I'm in Colorado and surrounded by State and National Forest. I just wanted to check out a few rocks... So, they can Stripmine an entire Mountain down in Victor, Colorado and load up the ground with chemicals in a Historical Town where my Great Great Grandfather is Buried but I can't dig up a flake of gold and then bury my tiny hole without breaking the law

Where CAN I MD

?? What about Public or BLM Land that is NOT National or State Forest Land. Why invest in a MD that you can't use? I don't break the Law but maybe this law should be modified to punish those who abuse it only. Where do you guys hunt? Blessings, Tami

Don't give up before you get started. I live in Colorado too. You can hunt in parks, schools, open space, people yards [with permission], I hunted a bit in a national forrest too. Basically as long as you don't go on private property without permission or get hassled by someone with a badge it's cool. Just cover your holes up. If any one says anything to you just say you're sorry and leave. You always return another time. I try to go places when people traffic are at a minimum. Sunday mornings are very good to avoid the looky lous and busy bodies. If you do buy a detector try to buy a mid priced range one if you can.

Hey Al,
I guess that I sounded a bit negative but I have been researching and picking "spots" for months! I love the area and it is loaded with History, Gold, and of COURSE Treasure Tales. I had fantastic plans and they were a bit dashed tonight. I guess I should have checked the rules first. Thanks for the reply and advise. I was going to start in the midrange area. I NEVER give up. You can detect anywhere there is dirt. You should contact the repersentative for your district and ask them what places are off limits and go from there. Make copies of the letter and carry one on you incase some badge dude thinks you are breaking the law. Very good advice to cover any holes and better if you learn to not even dig any to retrieve a coin.

When you get a detector, get one from a major manufacture and you will be lots happier with the results.

According to fmdac you can hunt all the state parks just get permission from the park managers and according to the list provided there are a ton of parks to hunt, so don't give up just yet. Like sandman said get yourself a reputable detector. You don't need to get the best of the best $$$ wise. I would recommend a nice turn on and go like a Tesoro cibola or Garret ace 250. The Cibola will get you more depth not to mention the best warranty in the business, but they are both great machines to learn on in my opinion. Just make sure you don't get yourself to cheap of a detector or one with to many bells and whistles or chances are you will become frustrated quickly and the detector will collect cob-webs

Thanks guys for all the cool advise. I REALLY appreciate your time and thoughts in this. Hubby came with me to look at some MDs today but the stores dedicated to the Sport were closed and the Sports Stores had little choices. But, guess who now wants a MD too? Mr. "I'm not into rocks" Hubby Tim. Ha ha Yippee! He saw what some of you guys found and now he is ALL excited about it. WAY COOL! Problem? My budget for a MD was $800.00. Now, I have to try to find TWO for that price. The good thing is that perhaps we can get two differant types. One with a larger coil or depth range. Do you think we could pull it off for $800.00? I work a 12hr Shift tomorrow so Tim will be checking it out. I DID find some spots we could hunt and I am also checking out a few local clubs. You guys are great. Thanks for the encouragement!
