There is a reason we have "rules"

I am a big proponent of following the rules and not getting greedy. I believe it will be greed that will ruin this hobby.

Today i went to order a box of halves from a bank i order from occasionaly [i order from a diffrent bank each week] and was told that they wouldnt do it any more so i asked why. I was told someone was ordering boxes and bringing them back to the same bank. They were not happy, so some charm and assurances I wouldnt do it got me the box.

The funny part is that branch has many locations in town [yonkers ny] and the county of westchester has quite a few banks with machines that take halves.I know some disagree but even if a bank has a machine that is no reason to overload the machine often.

Dont $h!t were you eat.

To this I agree.

Re: There is a reason we have "rules"

There are a few out there that will ruin it for all i'm sure. I know i've run into a few, even a no-account that poached half my box, went to the parking lot to search, brought back the butchered remains, then asked for the rest of the box.

Re: There is a reason we have "rules"

That's not greed that; that's excessive douchebaggery. People today don't think about what the reactions to their actions might be. I call shenanigans on that gent.

I see something akin to that on this forum. I've read about people getting cut off from banks. Then I read the amount they were pulling/dumping and I think :o. I guess the overall feeling on this board is due to the price of silver the window for what we do is closing so damn the torpedoes and full steam ahead. I work full time+++ so I only have time for 2 maybe 4 boxes of halves in a week.

I don't know what others think here, but I doubt my "rake" of silver will change dramatically even if it hits 100/oz.

Re: There is a reason we have "rules"

Great thread. I hope everyone on TN reads this.

It is unbelievable to hear what some people will do while searching CR's. Just absolutely crazy.

Re: There is a reason we have "rules"

Yes, it's about being considerate.

Re: There is a reason we have "rules"

I also agree. If people don't know any better about not dumping coins where they get them from then they shouldn't be surprised when they are cut off.

Re: There is a reason we have "rules"

This is Very True!..Last week i asked the teller at one of my banks about ordering halves, and told her people have been getting turned down on buying them, and she told me that "This" branch has a few people on that list. which pretty much told me its not the "Bank" who makes that decision. It was her (Teller Manager). I jokingly told her i dont want to be on that list..and she said No worries. She said the people she denied the halves to were buying about 5000 a week and bringing them back, she even told me that one of the gentleman was buying them would bring them back within hours, and ask to order more..So yes..alot of people dont have the common sense, to understand you dont tick off the Tellers

Re: There is a reason we have "rules"

I'll say it again, tellers can either be your best allies or your worst enemies. I prefer the former.

A little thought and consideration goes a long way.

Re: There is a reason we have "rules"

My "favorite" rule-breaker story is from a teller at one of my dump banks. She has said (multiple times now) that there is a guy that comes in almost every day, buys some rolls of coins and then goes and sits in the lobby area to look through them. After he is done, he proceeds to the self-serve coin counter and cashes them in without ever leaving the bank.

Re: There is a reason we have "rules"

I just found out last week that someone else started ordering halves from my bank. Now I'm nervous lol, they better not mess it up >:(

Thats my biggest fear...That some M0R0N is going to start buying 1000's a week from my bank

I would then offer more donuts, cookies, bottles of wine, etc to the teller to give my dumps to the competition. ;D
That will get rid of them real quick. I've mentioned that before to tellers. They laugh when I say it.

Man you got competition.. you need to tell those tellers there to give them your dumps. If you get the Brinks style box, just seal them back up with clear tape. Re-crimp wrap the rolls. LOL Coin Wars!!!

Re: There is a reason we have "rules"

I joke with my tellers. Whenever they ask me where I take them when I'm done I say laughingly not here. I ask them if anyone else does what I do. I'm always glad to hear I'm the only hunter at my order and dump branches.

wow. why don't you paint them silver too?
Better hope the competition doesn't figure that out & waits for you in the parking lot to make the war personal.

Oh brother! ::) ::) I always rewrap and return them in the box as a deposit to my account. But then, I do keep it to a box or two a week only, and it is a business account.
