There's more to life than silver!
Once in a while, you need to mix in a V nickel! I tried a new farm this morning and was off to a very slow start. I stumbled across a modern penny drop (early 80's) that had me plucking a dozen or more at 1.5 inches
. Finally, I found a 46 wheat, then a 45D Merc and 47 Rosey in the same hole; things were looking up
. Tooled around a little more, finding the 56 Rosey, and was getting set to pack up when I got a pretty good quarter signal. It turned out to be the 36, and will probably fill a slot in one of the kid's albums. I forgot to mention that much of the area in front of this old farm house is shaded - by maples
! The roots were agonizing! After plucking the quarter, I kept getting close signals and ended up with a trio of wheats, 13 and 23, then a 50. Then a dime signal appeared and imagine my surprise when this 1912 Liberty nickel popped out!
They were all very close, and could have been part of the same drop; who knows? We're having the prettiest day of the year in Western Pennsylvania; low humidity, bright sunshine, cool in the shade and warm in the sun - perfect!
