Why? For a lot of reasons. Its encouraging too many people to do it & all the green horn wet behind the ear rookies are going to ruin it for the experienced seasoned pros because the rookies don't know what they're doing. Also doesn't every one know & realize that is the Internet & everyone has access to it? The banking industry, Tellers, the Government, etc can all see what is going on here. In time CRHing will be a thing of the past. Its just a matter of time when the hobby will come to a screeching halt. Mark my words. I could go on but I just want to let you know I don't encorage anyone but discourage them. But this is just how I feel & my opinion. Please do away with this forum. The less ppl know about us the better off we will be. Nuff said.

Wow... Do you really get the internet in your bunker... This is ridiculous.. The only way to keep hobbies alive is to have new people introduced to them.. Its all over the internet let it be here or any other forum. Google coin searching and see what comes up. Doesnt matter if people read it here or somewhere else. CRH will end regaurdless because there is an insane amount of hunters, way more then people looking in here. Ive bumped into more hunters not on this forum then ones that are.
PLus id rather the greenies leran the right way to pick up and dump on here then using there own brains. WHich normally leads them to pick up andf dump at the same bank.

If it makes you feel any better this section has posts going back to 2005 and I didn't find out about coin roll hunting till 2013. It's really the youtube videos of people opening 20+ silvers in a box that causes more trouble I think. People really need to start posting videos of them going through 14 boxes of skunks.

I agree, in 1972 i was 13 yrs, i had bougt my first m.d. for $40.00, a used compass. i would clean my new coins and my dad would take them to the bank for me and get rolls of pennys and dimes---back then there was lots of silver, wheats and sometimes indian head pennys in the rolls-----crh is not something that just started but the internet is spreading the addiction--just my opinion

Good point. If the current breed of CRHers is gone, then the new breed won't be able to CRH. Tellers know it exists, and can accommodate to you. If tellers didn't know it existed, they would think halves are gone and wouldn't order for you potentially. We would then become like Sweden (we might anyway, if we go cashless) were if you ask to order a box, the tellers will think you escaped from an institution for the mentally ill.

Another interesting point is that metal detectorists don't care about being selfish. I know there is obviously a cost of money far greater in metal detecting, but you can pay off your detector in clad alone. The silver won't replenish. If you find a seated, that's one less seated in the ground. There is a very small chance a new one will come in the ground, unless someone steals a collection and drops one. Even a plain silver Rosie has a small chance of going into the ground nowadays. You get a few rosies per $250. There is not a big chance it would go into the ground, as it's not like everyone throws their change in the ground. There is a far higher rate of take out than take in. Yet, clubs are formed where people team up to MD.

For CRH, barely any portion of the silver is in circulation since 1970 or before, especially 90%. 40% were thrown back, so a portion of them may be in circulation since they were minted. Most 90% are deposited from a collection, including a deceased CRHers collection. There is a much smaller ratio of put out to put in.

I have been coin collecting since the early 60's, when silver still circulated and nobody thought to hoard. Just think, if I could have seen the future and taken my allowance, which was one silver quarter a week, and held on to it. No way, baseball cards were a nickel a pack. I could get five packs and the gum was great. The cards have come and gone, but the coins are still here. My collection/hoard continues to grow. Not as fast as TimZim's but steadily. I add some sort of copper and silver weekly. I also look for bargains in paper money. My hope is not to have to use any portion of it in retirement, which is only about six years away.
