Here in the tri-state region of Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, we are having over a weeks worth of straight sun and spring-like tempratures. So since Saturday afternoon, I decided to hit the road in search of new places to hunt, as well as sights to see, I am taking alot of pictures of what I have come across, and what I will be finding. I dont know what I will find in the ground starting tomorrow, but it has the potential to be good. I just got permission to detect at a very large house that was built in 1890 and was expanded upon, room by room over many years time, like a smaller version of the Sarah Winchester home. This place was used as a boarding house between WW1 and WW2. I did a quick scan of the property today (no digging) and by listening to the signals on my Tesoro Lobo, there is alot of nails and other types of iron trash near the sides of the home....... farther away from the house it is giving lower tones indicating other items are buried deeper, or are not iron at all. Considering this place has seen so many additions and repairs, I am going to be up to my eyebrows in trash, but it should produce some other interesting finds. The same owner of this home also owns a civil war-era rock built home out in the middle of nowhere just on the edge of Nantahala National Forest in the Tellico Farming District. No battles took place here in my area, so there wont be war relics, but if there is anything, it will be personal owned period pieces from the original homesteader. I am hoping for some very interesting and old coins, that is if anyone has dropped any over the years.
I am very excited by these two new properties that I just gained access to. There are several better places that I have my eye on, but I have yet to track down the owners to get permission.
Here in Western North Carolina, hunting is alot trickier. Some homes that look old, arent really that old. Other places that are old and have alot of great things to find, have been dozed over and new houses built, the land is so rearranged, that it is impossible to tell where the original stuff was, and that makes for a long and nearly impossible hunt to find anything good.
Then of course, (as my very first 3 hunts have started) there are the old historical homes, where NOTHING at all ever happened, and good stuff was never dropped, just the apparent trash belonging to the last 3 or 4 generations. The last few places I dug, I could have sworn.... was owned by the Clampett family
Stay tuned to my posts, I will be hunting for the entire week, and everything will be posted in one LARGE thread on here. It should make very interesting reading material (there will be a few funny suprises as well). Oh, and there will be lots of pictures for those of you who dont like to read so much.
