Things you find when you're not looking for them

Been detecting on and off for a number of years and have found a few rings, coins, vintage fishing lures and an assortment of other interesting pieces. Nothing remarkable, but still good finds.
Spent a day last week hunting a beach and park with my girlfriend who is new to metal detecting but a true treasure hunter at heart. We worked an area or two and I gave her a few pointers as we went along the beach. Soon we were just doing our own thing and after a while, I glanced over to see what she was up to. I saw her digging rabidly in the sand, pinpoint a little and dig some more. That's when it hit me -

Holy crap, I have a girlfriend who likes metal detecting!​

Looking back, I realize that I walked right past a bunch of promising sounding calls from my detector as I trailed her up the beach watching her hunt and figure out the subtleties of the detector she was using. I was mesmerized. Turns out she REALLY LIKES metal detecting and for some reason REALLY LIKES me. She's awesome and she's my best find.

I'm not sure how I got so lucky but if you ever see a guy and a girl detecting somewhere and the guy has a really big (dopey) smile stuck on his face, stop to say hello.

Very true! Sometimes we forget to look at the most supportive people around us as "our best finds"! I hope she knows what she means to you as I dont know of many guys who would post that. My wife and kids usually go out on all my "hunts" and help dig or run the one detector we have. Family is the best thing we could ever have!

GREAT! I am one of the rare lucky ones too. My girlfriend (DiggerGirl on Tnet) loves to dig as well. Thank God they make women like that.
