Hello I'll be looking into upping my MD in Jan or so.. I have it down to the Lone Star and the Quick Draw II.. Who has them? What's your thoughts? Any draw backs of one over the other?
They don't in my price range and I want years out of them mostly coin shooting.. Any tip and or info will be great.. Thanks in advance

85royalx: I don't own either machine now, but have hunted enough with each one to know the idiosynchracies of each. The Lone Star is a great starter unit. A friend of mine let me borrow his for several months when I was starting out in this hobby and didn't have a detector yet. It was a good coin machine, but lacks a depth readout. I prefer the QDII to the Lone Star simply because it has a depth read out. Other than that, they're quite similar. Both have All Metal, Discriminate, Notch (Auto-Notch) modes and both are 3-tone (audio) machines. In my experience, the QDII might get a bit more depth, but that could be my brain just telling me that because it's a bit more expensive than the Lone Star. If you're looking to upgrade to one or the other and have it service you for years to come, my vote would be the QDII. BBJ

Hey 85royalx I own both machines. When I go I use my lone star. I don't think the depth gage works that great on the QD 2. I my opinion is Lone Star. Let me know if u have any questions. Good luck HH. GOD BLESS

I have been using the quickdraw 2 for 10 years. What makes this detector great is the built in microprocessor and that it works really well on the beach.

I have had my QD II for 14 years and I love it. I am 28 and I do not hit the parks as much as i should but when I do my QD II does the job well.

I have had my lone star for 3 years, and I love it. It wasn't very expensive either.

The Quick Draw II is the better detector of these two. The Lone Star is a much newer model, but, either one would serve you well. I, personally, like the depth indicator. Most end-users will tell you that the depth meters on most metal detectors are not all that accurate. Some are better than others, but, the accuracy of a depth meter depends on how much residual matter leeches into the soil from an object. Relic hunters can tell you what iron will do to your depth meter readings. That is why a pinpointer will be your best friend.
