This afternoon's finds

Searched a wooded area behind an old high school. Somebody dumped a bunch of zinc pennies, a couple of peace medal nickels and a clad dime next to an old tree. Of course, I had to keep picking them up 'til I got 'em all. Also found 2 clad quarters, 3 wheaties and some other items. Neatest find was a silver heart-shaped ring inscribed with Philippines on a gold center strip and 1945 below that. Also found a merc and a buffalo nickel both dated 1935.

Re: This afternoon's finds

Thanks, everyone. To answer some of your questions: The wheaties were dated 1926, 1938 and 1951. Unfortunately, there are no markings on the inside of the ring. It would really be neat to know the story behind it, but, like a lot of the finds we make, I don't think it will ever be known for sure. I'm thinking that a serviceman brought it home from the Pacific at the end of WWII.
