Hey all, I am real sorry these flus is kicking butts. I would say; Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.
I know the appetite can be down when sick, but try and force yourself to eat lots of fruits and veggies. Keep yourself hydrated with natural juices, water, and soups.

DON"T take any of that air-borne stuffs or things that kick-start your immune system, especially if you already are sick. Your immune system has already kicked in. When you over kick it, it can actually make you feel worse (kinda like, too much of a good thing).

If it has settled in your lungs, do deep breathing exercises, 3 to 4 times an hour, or as much as you can remember to. Inhale deeply through your nose, exhale through your mouth. Do this about 4 times each time you do it. Don't hyperventilate yourself though. This will help to clear fluid and nasties from your lungs. Helps to stave off pnuemonia and/or pleurisy

Disinfect the common areas of your home so you don't re-infect yourselves or other family members. The light switches, commode handle, sink handles, stove knobs, door knobs, drawer handles, etc..... You get the idea.

Keep positive thoughts and make positive statements. What the mind dwells upon, the body acts upon. The mind will usually grasp the last few words of a statement. (So instead of saying things like, I'm so sick, so sick, so sick, I feel bad, feel bad feel bad) Tell yourself, I am fighting hard to get well get well get well. My body is healing, healing, healing. I will be well soon, be well soon, be well soon.

These are the things I do, when I am sick, which is very rarely. This is best advice I know, for the generally healthy folks. If you have any additional factors (heart/lung problems, diabetes, compromised immune systems, etc.), then DO see your doctor for best course remedies.
Stay strong all, and you will be up and at 'em, real soon, real soon, real soon!

Nice post Cat. Thanks for the tips. Gonna try that breathing exercise, because right now it sounds like I have dying seal in my chest??!?! Been going to Jamba Juice every morning last 3 days and pounding lots of fruits.

It's kinda funny and disturbing that my motivation for getting better is so I do not miss a day of prospecting next week. Hahahaha. I gotzzzz the fever,,, literally. Lol.

Who got a natural remedy for flus?? I sure need one.

I have no idea if this works for the flu, but it does work great for a cold. I read this remedy about 20 yrs ago in Readers Digestion. It was a article written by a dentist. Seems he was up late working on a presentation he had to do the next day and his nose was running so bad he wasn't getting anything done so he took tissue and packed his nose and went to bed. When he woke in the morning he was feeling fine and delivered his presentation but was puzzled over the quick recovery so began a bit of research.

He found in his research that the cold virus (rhinovirus) can only survive in a very narrow temperature range. He concluded that by packing his nose he had raised the temperature in his sinuses which killed the virus. In effect the same thing the body does when it produces a fever...the rise in body temp kills the virus.

I'm currently staying at my son's and his family and all are sequentially falling to a cold....I did too, but mine only lasted about a day and a half while their's are lasting a week or two.

I wil concede you look like the village idiot with tissue sticking out of you nose, but hey...it works.

I'm going to try it tonight. Man down here. Getting worse. I'm totally in baby whining mode now. I would shove a baseball up my nose if it worked at this point. Thanks for the idea. Can't hurt.

Hey thanks gold dog! Those are really nice pics. Feel a bit better today, so far... Are those pics from the "T" ? That's awesome. Be meeting u there soon enough brother.

Yep, that's from yesterday in the wash. I think it'll clean up nice. You can call me two buck chuck! (2/3 of a grain). Drove thru the upper cyn today. Wikiup area. The water's running nice. I'd sure like to get back up there soon.

Glad to hear you are doing better. See you up there soon.

wow same here, Green tea, aloe vera juice and showers, lots of them. Last time I got sick was 95..mono.

I am in Horticulture field, for example if we need to spray plants with preventives, we never use just one type of spray. We use three diff types on rotation because the pests will build immunity if we only used one type of spray. I sort of see the same thing in regards to the herds getting their flu shots. Isnt every year we hear about another superbug it seems. Oh heck, just more money for Big Pharma.

Sweat it out...by digging in your favorite hole!

Mine it and recycle it!

Oh, I almost forgot! If you're head is all stuffed up, and you can't seem to clear all the stuffs(mucus, phlegm, etc....)
Eat a wish clam cracker.
Melt ya a little butter, take a saltine cracker, dip it in the butter, then drown it in hot pepper sauce........
and wish you had a clam to go with it.

You can get nasty infection when you can't get that nasty stuff outta of ya. Ya need to keep the ole mucus membranes flowing.
Brushing teeth(can sometimes help), spit out nastys after brushings. Hot showers help get some of the nastys out, too.
But, my favorite for getting them to flow, is the wish clam crackers! LOL!
Good lucks to ya, too!

Ginger tea helps or anything with ginger in it. Ginger Ale doesn't count though because there is no ginger in it. Centuries old medicine. For congestion you can put vicks on your chest and/or under your nose. Avoid anything dairy, including the god of all foods, cheese. Remedies given to me by my mom and wife who hails from Japan.

I haven't gotten sick yet, but that's because I avoid eating out and eat fairly healthy thanks to my wife. She and the kids got the shot and haven't gotten sick either. Keeping my fingers crossed for myself and the rest of you.
