Three quarter grooved Stone hammer

Stumbled upon this metal detecting this week. I am from Northwest Ohio. Looking for a estimate on age, thanks for your help!

Nice find... late archaic- early woodland in my opinion

That piece is made from diorite. Diorite is more or less a cross between basalt and granite. Not the very best rock for an axe but pretty darn good. The Wisconsin glacier brought lots of diorite down from Canada. It's common in gravel pits in Cent. IL. Gary

All the Native American items I have found have been by accident. But then again a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
