I mentioned on my Photo post I found some unknowns today, well, it really is a pin of some type, but it is a decorative heart with a raised wing eagle with shield. Looks like the hole was meant for something additional or attachment to clothing. It has an operating spring loaded double pin on the backside. I believe this type of Eagle first appeared around 1808 and was in general use for many years.

The button is still soaking, I am not sure if that is a plain button or not, but it is in bad shape. The other item is a complete unknown to me, it held something, almost like a mini-knife/sword sheath. :)

The items were found at the homestead that I found the WN button and the snowflake cufflink a couple weeks ago.

YES< I HIT TWO OUT OF THREE ITEMS TODAY :(

WOW! Those are some great finds! Is the last picture some sort of animal call, or horn?

WTG :icon_thumleft: Great job on the restoration

Great day for digging relics. The heart is very nice!

Do you suppose that dual pin went through hair, and rivet should have a ribbon on it. For a girls hair, say with the eagle for the 4th of July? I found one with a similar back pins. It is also possible that the pins went through a hat, hung down the back, and had a ribbon on it.

That's a beauty for sure, love it, Don.

A possibility, will direct attention towards that area, but actually have already with no results. That is the second one, one identical to mine and yours which is similar, but both yours and the other one are bent, buckled, distorted, LOL, reminds me of old USAF days on How Mal code. :) Anyway, I wonder if 2 out 3 being damaged is a clue also. Perhaps a rougher useage than we think. Left field, but trying any outlet.

By the artifacts found so far at this site, I would not go past Civil War for time frame, but there could always be a random drop anytime.
The site is very isolated from any present day homes.

Don, found mine at an old homesite along with an 1856 LC.

The heart shape leads me toward female decoration, yet now with the eagle on yours, raises questions.

Hope it can be tracked down. As thin as the metal is and not being of brass or copper, but plated tin?, leads me to believe that they were cheap to own. I've only ever found this one in 25 years.

Again, awesome find, a real nice piece.

Nice digs Don ... that heart shaped piece with the eagle is nice and unique ... congratz on some good finds ~ Jimmy

Solved, an individual on another forum sent the photo to a buckle collector who came across one of these before and had the answer.

Posting the information shortly

Don,

It looks like your item is an early style suspender buckle. :D

Kirk

Yes, took a lot of brains from ya to read on the other forum, great research Kirk!! LOL

It is a suspender buckle from the 1850's, many styles were allowed to be made, now what this was made for who know, most likely partriotic individual. ( the guy in the portrait, the decade is the same as the photo) ;)

Great info Don. Way to go on the ID.
Does picture "C" look like an Eskimo trying to ski, or is it just me? LOL. :D
Congrats,
