Me to, I'm seeing them now. Guess they all grew up

Yep. I've always referred to them as "October Spiders". They get big here -- I've seen some nearly as big as a golf ball.

Yep..I consider September to be Spider Month around here. They come out in droves looking for mates, and seem to have a special affinity for my front door. I never step out without a careful look to make sure I'm not going to take one in the face...

Riding my 80 endoro when i was a kid i was ripping through a trail in the woods...

When across the trail there was a massive banana spider web with it in it... dead center chest level...
Which was only seen AS it hit me in the middle of my chest......

Needless to say... the bike took a ghost ride into a tree as i was slapping my chest and rolling and jumping around for at least a minute... and for the rest of the ride back i was feeling it on me... even though i never saw it after the hit.. heh

I recall those critters growing up in Florida walking in the woods, those webs would stretch a long way before breaking.
Back 1990 I would commute to Gainesville Florida and stay alternate weekends. I'd always go see different sites on the weekends I had to stay. I went hiking on some trails in the pines and put my face right into the web of one of those and noticed how strong the tensile strength of that kind of spiders web was. It me wonder if these spider in Florida are out to snag a small bird or what kind of giant bugs are around they want to be sure doesn't get away. Having that web all over my head sure gave me the willies

Spiders are amazing creatures.
More in the gardens the better insect control.

This one lived at the back of the chicken barn.
Earned a certain level of respect.

Don't mean to highjack, but it looks like Chris may have begun a run on a spider thread. I took this one of a jumping spider in the garden on Sep. 26. It backed away from my phone, as though it didn't want me to take away the bug it snagged. This little spider was around the size of a .117 BB.
