Time is running out to dive the "Mount Everest of shipwrecks"

I'd never heard this before, but they are referring to the Andrea Doria. If nothing else, it provides a glimpse of how quickly a shipwreck in relatively shallow water degrades compared to the deep wrecks. Actually sounds like a great experience for an experienced diver:

I think the last I heard of the Andrea Doria was on an episode of Seinfeld.

I think the last I heard of the Andrea Doria was on an episode of Seinfeld.

Has been collapsing for over 50 years. Many divers attempt multiple dives on it a day. They bump into the powerful current and hang like flags on a pole decompressing. I always picked just before slack and have always enjoyed this dive tremendously. There are so many wonderful wrecks out there. Did it 42 year, so many i never got to. Body telling me gotta give it up sadly. Have my collection of artifacts, photos and memories. Will miss it

Theres an A5 light 12 Browning shotgun from Belgium my dad ordered on that wreck ! Browning sent him one the following year.

I was actually surprised that almost 20 people have died while diving the wreck. I'm guessing that at more than 200' down you can't stay long before it's time to head back and decompress.

Unless someone found themselves a couple of cool souvenirs over the last several decades. Did your dad ever dive the wreck? It would be cool if at least one person who was on it when it happened was able to dive it afterwards. Spooky, but very cool.

The A5 was a model of 12 gauge Shotgun he ordered from Browning firearms company. It was shipped on the Andrea Doria from Belgium to my dad in upstate NY but it sank with the ship. Not sure if my father ever saw an ocean.

My bad. I actually thought he was a passenger at the time, back in the day where it wasn't a big deal to travel with a firearm...

I can remember years ago buying a firearm at a K Mart department store in a mall and walked out with ammo in one hand and a rifle in another and no one blinked or even fazed. My, how the world has changed.
