To Kill an American

Just a guess here... but wasn't it Sen. Charlie Wilson who was the 1st to try to help the rebels to defeat the Soviets ??? and then it grew from there ?? At least that's the way the movie stated it..

PLL
I dont know that much about it but i wouldnt call it a "gesture of goodwill.". We got our revenge for Vietnam.

I think the problems occured in Afghanistan because we supplied the weapons of war, mainly the heat seeking Stinger missles that turned the war around, but offered no help in the rebuilding process. It seems that if we get involved in a war, we must stay for the rebuilding process, unfortunately, or undesirables will take over the country.

What movie?

Maybe I'll edit it a little, so that it is actually correct...

"When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country! (But really this was just to stop the Commies from spreading their influence. Don't mistake this gesture for genuine goodwill!)
good one.

Seems to me that stopping a communist takeover IS a gesture of goodwill.

Depends on your point of view, I guess. In war, people will get killed. But the people are now being killed by oppressive regimes who desire continued control of everything in said country.
;D ;D ;D Yes even arming Bin Laden and the Taliban (in their fight against the Soviets) can be viewed as a "gesture of goodwill" LOL ;D ;D ;D depends on your point of view. :D :D ....and yours is always the same Jeffro. Why do you refuse to see the other side of any issue? BTW How have you been my friend? :) 8)

Yes, the Soviets needed to be stopped but calling it a "gesture of goodwill" ??? ??? lol

Why dont we just call this letter (and the fictional changes made to it) "good propaganda." I like it. :D

Doing good my friend, how about yourself?

BTW, I do see the other side of issues like this, I just choose not to believe in it. Trust me, I get force fed "the other side" on a daily basis! LOL!

As for the last thing, I agree- a good piece of propaganda, period.
