We took a 4wheeler ride out to a waterfall area to take some pics this afternoon. Noticed an overhang we’ve never poked around in up above. It looked dry so we hiked up to take a look. Found this nice point within seconds of walking up, laying in a drip spot. Then found flake knife and scrapers up on ledge shelf with little stack of flakes. Then skimmed around the top for bout 30 mins. Found lots of little flakes and chert chips. New spot to take around in for sure. Happy about the point, and was really happy to find the stuff up on shelf. Sorry no pics from location today. Nasty weather out there ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1612223462.701291.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1612223479.089249.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1612223496.875228.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1612223513.308581.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1612223528.959010.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1612223545.677227.webp

Of course, before anyone asks. Waterfall pic

I’ve bumped into a neighbor there and another I know rides the creeks when his grandkids are in. But no one is working anything there. I don’t either, it’s one of those places that’s kinda magical and we just go and take it all in there. The point and stuff was found around the bend of the creek in another cave/overhang type area we just hadn’t really ever looked in. Just starting really finding stuff about a year ago this month. Have lots of exploring to check em all out here. Thanks

Anyone want to take a stab at Point ID? 1 3/4” long 3/4” wide 1/2” thick.

Nice rescue quinn, nice looking material and a awesome place to look.

That is a post card kind of place. Maybe a good spot for one of those copper popcorn cookers, this is the last time I’m making any liquor, popcorn.

Notice something, please: those flakes, which people unthinkingly dismiss as debitage (waste flakes) were obviously cached for later use. IOW, they were tools. The assumption that flakes-have-to-have-edge-work-or-they're-not-artifacts is not an informed one. As Quinn just demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt.

Most of these were piled up on little shelf on back wall. Covered in moss The flake knife caught my eye. Most of these upon inspection have translucent edging all the way round. Couple of the scrapers look to have had heavy use. Thanks

You might want to search the area above the water fall?

You have some really nice flint in E.KY. This point, and points you have posted in the past are made of high quality stuff. Find the source, learn to knap a little, and you could sell that stuff for $2 or $3/lb. Some hobby money. Gary

There is a flat area above where the creek comes off the falls. It is the creek bottom below on the way out of the cliffs. Very overgrown w Mtn laurel dense grounds. Maybe we will rake around up there at some point. Thanks for suggestion

I have looked for sources. I’ve found bands in the rocks along creekbed. My understanding was that most things were made from nodules that were mined out, not really the bands, if that makes sense. I could be wrong too. Find busted chunks in creek, and remains of nodules, the outer shell cement looking part, but haven’t found any complete nodules. I’m always looking. Have several caves in overhangs that look like they were mined, maybe a possibility. Thank you, I feel very lucky for the beauties I’ve dug up or turned over in the past year. Hope to find the source someday. Many colors, should be many sources

According to the link I provided, 45 mm (1.77") is the minimum length. I'm guessing that the length of yours is approx. 1 3/4" with the proximal edge broken. Looks like it has lost some material due to resharpening as well. Most all of Kentucky is in the distribution area except the extreme west end of the state. That's all I've got.

Ok. So yesterday we went back to this new location. I think it was definitely a production site. Scratched around in the moss for about an hour. Found a few brokes, first drill We’ve found, broke, another nice point, a huge scraper, and many tools and flakes. Think this might be the new honey hole. We had a great afternoon. Here’s some pics. Let me know if anyone wants to see anything in more detail. The large scraper is some other material, just a hard stone I believe, but definitely worked and found with all of this. This was all found scraping around one 2x2 Rock in the overhang. There is going to be so much stuff in here. All surface finds, both afternoons. Yes, I’m kinda excited. Hate the cool drill is broke, awesome workmanship on that piece. Think the new point is Adena of some sort. Enjoy
