Went to a spot where I always seem to get one coin. Today was no exception!
Pretty tough hunt with all the cans and nails, but managed to squeak out a Colorado tax token (pretty ate up), a miner's tag and an 1898 V nickel.

Nicely done getting a nice tag, coin, and the token.
Would one of those roofers magnets work at that site, or is everything just under the surface?

The town was ruined by a flash flood around 1899 and never recovered. The iron/cans/nails are mixed to a depth of up to 2 feet deep. I'm lucky to get what I get. It would be sweet if it were to get plowed once in a while!

How great is it to find a coin every time you go out hunting! You did a great job.

This one was engraved by Charles Barber. I like this Miss Liberty much better than the silver coins he did. Teddy Roosevelt detested those Barber dimes, quarters and halves that all look the same and fired Barber. From that firing and coin redesigns we ended up with: Mercury dime, standing liberty quarter, buffalo nickel, walking liberty half, St Gaudens $10 and $20 gold and $5 and $2.50 gold Indians. And Lincoln had already slipped in in 1909, leading to the downfall of our beautiful coins and the beginning of the march of dead presidents.🤷🏼

Except for the gold coins, none of those coin designs you mentioned after the Barber series were produced during Roosevelt's term in office.....which was 1901-9. Except for the mercury dime and walking half, they were all designed by a different person too. The Lincoln cent probably was designed and commissioned during his term however.

True but it was the push from Roosevelt that resulted in the new silver coin designs. Roosevelt also demanded that the motto “In God We Trust” be removed from our coins. He didn’t think the deity’s name should be on money. Congress overturned that and is was added to the new gold coins in 1908, half way through production.

It was a town, washed away in a flash flood in 1899. It never recovered from that.
