Wow.
After a long night of hard winds, pouring rains, and a panicking wife...we got a call from my inlaws. They said a tornado went through their property, and destroyed the neighbor's home. We rode over there to help out however we could.
The older lady who lived in the destroyed home was hospitalized, but released later that day with some staples and other injuries, none of which were severe, thank God. She was living there alone, and when bad weather comes, she lays in the bathtub. She had been in it until the weather got better, and she went to bed. Suddenly, the weather turned bad and she got up to head for the bathroom. She got into the kitchen when the tornado hit, and so she hunkered down beside the fridge. The tornado picked the home up off the ground, slammed it into her jeep Cherokee, flipped it over the jeep, and onto the ground on the other side of the jeep, shattering the entire home. The only little pocket of protection there was left was right there where she was, at the fridge. It took emergency workers about an hour to get her out...they cut a hole to get her. She was upside down and covered in insulation, but talking and alert. She was released later this afternoon. Amazing. God has the whole world in his palm, but sometimes his palm is just big enough to cover one person.
My inlaws also live in a mobile home on the adjacent property until their house gets built. Their carport and utility shed on one side got blown away, and someone else's carport wound up in my inlaw's pond on the other side. Their home was in the middle of the path of destruction, but it was undamaged other than cosmetics. I guess the tornado touched down to hit the one home, and lifted up enough to skim over my inlaws home. We are all thankful...it could have been really bad.
You can see the hole they cut to extract the trapped lady from her home.
