Today's finds, my first IN-SITU ever, and it has two artifacts at once.

Walking along a 20 foot high cut bank, I walked up to these little guys, Both were laying right next two each other and I remembered I had my camera with me for a change.
I was standing in the sand river bank, and these were both about 3 feet up on the 20 foot tall clay/mud cut bank, there is a wheat field up above I figure they had recently fallen as the bank had eroded.

I can't figure out if it is just a large preform or an axe? tool? or something else, it is a large chunk of un-heatreated kay country chert.

I was really disapointed that the beautiful little corner tang knife was broken, because it was at the bottom of a muddy bank I dug around for the other half but never found it.

The other was a nice little broken point my wife found, it may be broke but still nice enough to put in the case.

nice ! the large one appears to be a bi-facial blank. how in the world do you keep that camera clean!

Cute Tang, too bad about the breakage. If it's any consolation, it looks to have been utilized after the break. You sure that Kaye isn't heated? It appears reddish / brown..but could just be your image. The other point appears to be a Cossattot River, the predecessor to the Calf Creek. The bi-face appears to be simply a preform. With careful examination, I'd wager that you'll find flaw(s) in the material to justify the discard. There's a ton of readily available material in your area, the reason it was so easy for them to always opt for better lithics instead of throwing out an elbow trying to beat one out of lesser quality.

the knife and the broken point are most cetrainly heat treated, the big pre-form has no hint of pink/red, it's totally grey/white.

I dont have the expertise to determine if it is a bad blank and has flaws. I was still very exicted to find it, even though it's a blank, I still think it is one of my coolest finds so far.

btw. I got my book today and seen some of your points in it, very very nice!
