LOL, what?????

Well, DJ... Seems to me some folks are adventurous in their dining habits.
I am not.
MOF, I'm pretty conservative.

The chief cook and bottle washer excels, and I'm reluctant to eat anywhere else.
I'd be reluctant to say any more.

Tell us, DJ... I just say pictures of caravans in the UK... was that from you? or do you have fixed lodging?

A lot of legal and illegal aliens are chefs.
Hopefully not the "Men in Black" type.
(although I have seen customers in night clubs looking that way)

Re: Today's thought

Jefferson was right!

In light of what is currently going on in this country, it’s interesting to
read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

Thomas Jefferson:

When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall
become as corrupt as Europe.

Thomas Jefferson:

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are
willing to work and give to those who would not.

Thomas Jefferson:

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A
principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

Thomas Jefferson:

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government
from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of
them.

Thomas Jefferson:

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too
much government.

Thomas Jefferson:

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

Thomas Jefferson:

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear
arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in
government.

Thomas Jefferson:

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of
patriots and tyrants.

Thomas Jefferson:

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which
he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

Thomas Jefferson:

'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties
than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to
control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation,
the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive
the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the
continent their fathers conquered.'

Re: Today's thought

I can not pick a favorite of Jeffersons quotes! They are the best he and Franklin and rest of our forfathers would be mortified if they knew what stuff was going on today ... the wars the bailouts all the bad stuff just to much.

They beleived helping out your fellow man but.....

They believed helping out your fellow man but.....

...but that it wasn't the government's JOB.

Most of our founders believed it was up to each man to do charitable works according to his own beliefs.
This is a private thing between each man and his creator.
These things were dismissed as quickly as they were brought up.
They were not spoken of.

Just as the Bible says to do

Re: Today's thought

Funny thing I don't recall the kids coming home with chapters on Jefferson in their schoolbooks.

Re: Today's thought

I got of lot of learning on Jefferson in grade school but I had all older teachers and I went to Jefferson grade school!

Re: Today's thought

Evey,
We must have gone to different schools together, LOL!
The constitution and declaration were hammered (literally) into me.
I learned the Gettysburg Address in the third grade (memorised).
and by the fifth grade could recite the entire Declaration.

I knew what inalienable rights I had.

Had is a key word now.
start preaching freedom and you get slapped with hate speech... at the very least.
Simply because to do so condemns the Socialist ideals we are being forced to live by.
Since when do you have to apply for a permit to assemble?

Yup, had is the key word.

Re: Today's thought

You got that write we learned the consitution the declaration and the bill of writes sad to say I can not quote it as well any more! But my teachers in GRADE school were the best! We learned right from wrong and I did not turn out to be this bad person and I lived and still do on the wrong side of the tracks and was raised by a working grandmother and a 1/2 there mother my grandmother was a cook dishwasher and took in laundry and such. I did not have my father around he did not come home much 3 times in my memory, my mother did not work but was not real part of my life but my granmother raised me right and I learned what was right and what was wrong. What is wrong now days they dont teach cant teach some things were we taught if they could alot of stuff would be very diferent!

Re: Today's thought

The real shame is ...
we can only teach them how it was.

I think we have reached the end of the 'good old days'.

I have learnedthat good advice is hard to give but even harder to follow.

Re: Today's thought

Keep your words soft and sweet you may have to eat them one day....

Re: Today's thought

I've learned that you shouldn't speak unless you can improve on the silence.
