token I found

Hey all I found this token the other day with "health office billiard parlor"
on one side on the other side it reads "good for 5c in trade AL.MYERS"
any one know any thing about it , found in west centeral indiana.

This should be a pic of one side of it - I have it listed in the TAMS http://www.tokenandmedal.org/ maverick list as #16207, but not attributed yet. I'm sure the "Health Office" was a play on the fact that the place sold alcoholic beverages.

Eureka! maybe....

The 1910 Census shows an Albert Myers as a saloon keeper in the town where this one was found. So, the next step is to check the old newspapers, directories, etc. to see if the name of ol' Al's saloon can be determined to be the Health Office. I will e-mail the guy working on a new IN token book to enlist his help. Many saloons also had pool/billiard tables and, when Prohibition was enacted, in order to keep in business, many saloons changed to soft drink parlors and the pool and billiard tables became more important since soft drinks didn't bring the keeper as much revenue as beer and liquor.
