Jeff it's done purely for spite, it's well known that they seed fields with all sorts just to stop us detecting. They follow the building sites and check for occupation, I even asked them near my home if I could detect the spoil they had removed...yes, but they had seeded it with cut up pieces of copper nails...a lot

Well I think the same way two, it's one way traffic with them, and I don't see them giving me pointers of were to go. It would have to be a very significant historical artifact for me to hand it over.

I agree, calling someone's wife a bimbo, especially a respected TNet member is outrageous, unacceptable and un-called for.

... Yes that is one thing i have seen as of late ..... It is not good......If someone does not like the show they ...... They start calling the ones in the show names and put them down ........ If you do not like the show there is no need to put them down just do not watch them............. I watch very little reality shows to be honest with you they just bore me.......

I was Metal Detecting for about 20 years and as of several months ago because of my disability have been sidelined... That being said, I saw the two episodes on Travel Channel and was pleased with the show for the most part. The part about seeding with pennies was quite childish and uncalled for, and the retaliatory response was just as childish. I do recall a time when I first started MDing and a couple of us were out and one of the guys pulled that stunt out of jealousy for what the others of us were finding. IMHO as I saw what happened on the show, I mumbled under my breath "As$hole$" as that's how I felt about it. The rest though not 100% accurate was entertaining to this sidelined old dog...

Just watched them the woman annoyed me she just basically repeated everythjng her husband said . All the random pro pointer beeps wrre out there. There was a stange spot she said she had s good hit over an already dug hole then she kicked the plug over it and re scanned and found that sterup.

This is growing to annoy me each day that passes knowing this show is now on.... I got my first detector like a three weeks before this show and been wanting one since I was a kid and now that I got one there putting it on blast and there are only like two people in this valley I live in that detect now there's going to be tons man...:/ I found two 14k gold rings and soon I won't find a darn tab haha and on top of it soooo many people are going to shred the parks and what not and now ima have to keep an eye out for cops because of them.... This just ruins this for me ... This stinks!

In this day and age I personally don't think 30 minute shows are even worth the effort of making or watching. Take into account the commercials and what are you left with, a 20 minute show? It's not even a show, it's basically a clip. Just put it on youtube.

All these detecting shows always tryin to put values on stuff is what's hurting the hobby. People see it and r like ill go buy a cheap detecter ans find 2k worth of stuff. Our hobby doesn't need the local screw ball out there with a 70 dallor radio shack detector and a spade shovel diggin everything under the sun. They need to just make a simple show with no appraiser or buyers of stuff.

I suspect that the cast has little control over how the shows are run and that is why we see so much "Antiques Road Show" style emphasis on monetary value of dug items. I'm sure the show producers play a heavy hand requiring script that includes Tom Foolery to delight the audience to spice up what might be perceived by the producers as dull activity to the non digger elements of the audience. This includes the annoying beeping. I'm glad we did not have to put up with the baby talk lingo that I'm still on the fence on whether it was cast or producer driven on the other digger show that I will not watch.

My biggest gripe was so much commercial time and would be surprised if we even got 15 minutes of show out of the 30 minute program. I still liked the show and I'm taping future episodes to spin through the spam. I do see more to be gained on relic ID on this show then the previous digger shows.

I agree with Joe Dirt, you can get just as much air time off Youtube submissions, with the bonus that it is something that diggers can connect with.

so please be kind - remember when you first started - I know I do - my first year was rough
I think that was an editing bloop - I saw the dug spot and then an un dug spot

I am a large knife guy - and sometimes a trowel in dirt fields
guys down south laugh at me kneeling down for every dig and using my big knife
but I have seen stuff bent, crushed or scraped by those big shovels
that scares me

I still do some relic hunting - did a lot when I was younger
Im known mostly for my water hunting now a days - but when I show a gold ring to anyone (not in the hobby)- first thing out of their month -"whats that worth?"
when I show a old object/relic - whether it be a colonial button or even a musket ball - usually first thing out of their mouth - "is that worth anything?"
I work at a large government facility - I bring in finds all the time
bunch of guys over the years thought they would get into the hobby and get rich after seeing my finds
they bought land machines - they bought water machines
out of about 20 - 1 guy still does it now and then
the others found tons of nails and bottle caps after a few tries and gave it up

and without exaggeration I have a very hard time getting back up at times
without using my scoop as a Pushing device but still prefer to kneel down on my knees
to dig.
I some times use a Kellyco Gator digger , sometimes a long handled scoop,
but mostly a Mighty AP digger (trawel). allot depends on site & ground conditions

Once I can't do it at all, I'll retire rather then drag a spade

Dug - those Digger show guys - they talk like that - you can see old youtub vids of them - they act the same way
producers must be nuts thinking growups would enjoy that part of it
I think of it as a kids show - the antics and the lingo - they need some purple dinosaurs with them

and you hit it on the head - the cast does not direct, produce, edit anything
they are employees of the production company and for the most part do what the boss says
and in these bosses have no clue about the hobby - like many out there they think its easy
to make great finds and you just turn it on and go
we know it usually takes a lot of time and though you may do it for fun - a lot of times its hard work
if the cast was allowed to preview the show 9 which they did not) they could have caught and corrected a lot of the poor editing
and made it even better ---and yes the producers want laughs - controversy and a fight now and then
just like pawn stars - American pickers and every other reality show out there
I was asked to do a show on water hunting and we went over a lot of this - so it is what it is

I use long handled scoop in the water
knife I use on land - I was taught to use a knife to cut nice clean plugs
those Diggers guys rip the crap out of their holes after using their lesche tools
they try and cut a plug and then make a mess - I'd hate to see some of those lawns after they are done - especially if it does not rain for a while after they are there
I know if I hit that plantation and used my knife - you would not be able to tell where I went compared to a spade digger
but they would not need as much ibuprofen and bengay as I do after a full day of land hunting - so its a trade off

I'm sorry but shell be the reason I dnt watch the show or fast foward when they come on. I can see gettin excited over the coin, but some of that stuff grt a grip and act like a professional if ur on tv. They neesnto stop putting people on these shows that act like there one step away from the looney bin. Most people already think were crazy as it is.

I kinda agree on this - if you have an hour you can talk more history - more on tools of the trade and you can show more minor finds - at the end of episode 2
when Josh shows his 1806 silver - the plastic case he has looks like it had musket balls and flat buttons as well as other old looking objects - im sure all of us would have like to have seen those dug too.

they filmed like 100 hrs to get 6 - 22 min shows
and they have no control what gets edited and goes in

I think editing can really make or break a show. For example, they show Abbey find that nice silver knee buckle, then show Josh talking about how they're "rarer than hen's teeth" to find. But then they don't even show or mention it at all during the appraisal.
