Wow the nights are really drawing in here, but we managed a quick swing.. our first whole Crotal Bell, some bits of metal, circular one is heavy(?) Little buttons, and lead couple of musket balls, what looks like a squished lid (?) and a strange little bit that looks like a seal 🤔 xx

This is getting out of hand! You guys need to leave a little for the others to find . Cool stuff as always.

The lead 'dish' sometimes referred to as a powder measure was the lid from a 17th C (crosses-over with Civil War) Powder Flask. The 2 strings when through the lugs to stop it being lost.

I find loads of those things with 3 holes, I think they are off roller blinds, but I haven't given them much thought to confirm this ID.

This looks like you did pretty good :)

Genius as ever 😆 thank you xx

Love the crotal bell! You and himself are doing a great job recovering your history. I hope you get many more swings in before you lose the daylight.

We have only ever found bits of them before, so love this one, I got the mud out and gave it a shake to hear the little jingle 😍 just lovely xx

Congrats on your first bell.
Hard to tell if there's any marking on it, and size.
Though for some reason it looks small.
Ah the rush when you get to hear it after centuries of it being silenced.
That never gets old.

Thanks Peps, no, no markings, gave it a good scrutiny with my loupe just in case! It’s 3 cm wide by 3.5 cm high? ( I also love that you can mis pronounce ‘crotal’ immaturely and giggle a lot 😂 ) xx

If you look here, its an 18th-19th C type. (makers letters or symbols would be easy to see if there)
