So my son has been bugging me to take him detecting, and I always put him off as he was to young. So he tells me dad I am 6 years old and am I old enough to go hunting with you. I said sure but for a short while.

So we gear up and meet my other hunting buddies to hunt a new Civil War site.

But for my son I planned on planting 4 or 5 bullets to help teach him how to hunt and pin point. Which he did an excellent job, so he is now hunting on his own, right next to me of course, and he gets a signal and he yells out to me that he has indeed got a signal, so I check the target and it reads in the high 70's low 80's, I figure soda can, because it sounded shallow. But I felt that he has to dig trash as well. So he starts digging and can't find the target, I gave him my probe and he was having problems so I checked his hole and the surrounding area, and what I thought was a pull tab turned out to be a 2 Reale dated 1772. I have never been happier, except when he was born. And his find won him King of field. I just wish I had my video camera with me,

So my sons first ever hunt lands him on the 1700's score board.

That's an awesome story! I have to take my kids with me too! :laughing7:

Here is a picture of him holding his find, he actually wants to sleep with it so he will have it tomorrow. I love my 4 children, and believe it or not my Middle daughter wants to learn how to make knives and swords with me in the shop.

I only allow 2 hours a day total for electronic anything in the house. So my children go outside and play.

These are by far my favorite threads to read. I love seeing these kids out enjoying this hobby and time with mom or dad. The look on that little guys face is priceless. What an awesome day for him. What could be cooler for a kid than pulling treasure from the dirt and telling all of his little buddies. Great job dad. Keep up the good work. And tell the boy great job. I bet theres lots of jealous adults on here lol

If there was any way possible, I would definitely see this boy's stupendous, first find up top as a banner find! It would be a GREAT thing for this site to encourage youngsters in this hobby and learning history!

It's like I've been saying. There are those who are lucky and then there are those who seem to be born to hunt! This one shows great potential!!

WTG!

Please adopt me! I am potty trained and get a paycheck twice a month.

Very good show. Congrats to the young man! GL&HH.

That little man is king of the field good job buddy...:icon_thumright:

Interests at that age are sometimes fleeting...he may continue to be your hunting buddy or may go on to other interests. But you are raising him in such a way what he will have a wealth of experience and patience to draw on...a love of being outdoors, and enjoying the company of good friends.
Well done.

Glad to see you sharing the joy with the boy. This hobby is addicting in a good way; far better than other things kids get addicted to nowadays!

William is very out going and loves finding treasures. So it seems only natural that he would want to metal detect with me as he loves seeing my treasures that I bring in. We are going to a club hunt this coming weekend and he is super excited.

And thanks guys and gals for your warm support. I hope my son can learn to appreciate the hobby as he gets older.

What a great story. Thanks for sharing and congrats to you and your boy on a fantastic coin. My boy is 5 and can't wait to take him with me. He's already asking!

It is these type of things that bond a son with his father. He will always equate treasure hunting with you and have fond memories. Enjoy the time, it is precious.

Priceless, precious memory. Congrats, you have a great family, keep doing what you are doing, your blessed!

Really Happy for you and your son. What better way to bond and make great memories!

Thanks folks, now if I could only get him to bond with his chores and not picking on his little brother or big sisters. LOL

he's got my banner vote! Now lets get him his own Treasurenet handle (for the next one)

Hrmm I will have to ask him what his treasure hunt handle is

Congrats on a great hunt with your son and congrats to him on a great find! As far as the treasure hunt handle goes, if your' handle was Eight then because he is your son and because of his find, I think "Piece of Eight" would be an excellent handle!

By the way, don't let him see any of Vino's finds Threads because if you do, then he will soon be asking for a Minelab CTX 3030 or XP Deus.

That's so Awesome!!

Good thing he doesn't understand just how Sweet of a find he found, how will he top that. Lol

Congrats to you and your son on an awesome find. You also created a great memory with your son that will stay with both of you for a lifetime. I also like the fact that you limit him to only two hours a day for electronics. If more parents would do this, society would not have so many kids addicted to video games.
