I've decided with their larger brains the smaller headed Sapiens did them in out of fear...but that's just my take, totally decided to fit my narrative ...BUT I thought it was cool that they found beeswax mixed in some of the resin. In my old job we used pine resin as glue, and we mixed wax with the resin to make it more workable.
