Found this like 8 inches down saw silver color and the eagle and I was like oh my gosh my first big silver coin my heart was racing, I then move the dirt away and I go from a racing heart to a sunk one. Darn you Readers Digest you got me good lol. mir_20210307_173614.webpmir_20210307_173630.webp

Congrats on a fun recovery.
Well , fun a while after you figured out what is is anyways...

you're not the first one that dang readers digest token made their heart skip a beat, I've seen at least a couple others posted where at first glance they thought it was a morgan. Better than a pull tab, but far from being as cool as a morgan would have been.

Yup got me mad for a second but once I got over it I laughed about it.

Oh it got me good lol having my excitement stolen from me upon realizing what it was made me mad for a little bit lol. But got rewarded with a good find that is posted too

I found that exact same Readers Digest token, except mine was gold in color. Talk about a pumping heart ! Neat find.

Yes, I could see that coming out of the ground would be a heart stopper !
What the heck - I'd still clean it up and put it in a coin flip.

I cleaned and organized all my Token's this Winter (approx. 85) put them in coin flip album.
Civil War, Hard Times all the way to Chuck E Cheese Tokens - looks cool !

Good Hunting !

It's that dang eagle :laughing7:

Frustrating, like that fake reale I found.

I'll still keep it and preserve it looks to have some age to it still a neat piece to add to my collection.

Thanks for sharing this. We've all been there and feel your pain. I predict this was just a warm up for the real thing. Good luck.

I hope so lol it had me sunk low for a good minute but 20 minutes later I was rewarded with a gold watch winder so the little joke the metal detecting gods played on me was okay.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Brother I’ve had that feeling happen to me more than once being from New Orleans we got a lot of doubloons down this way, but they’re aluminum and never down that deep so that one you got right there would’ve just killed me LOL

I definitely won't forget it that's for sure. I've been wanting a big silver coin but I understand that is rare and nearly impossible for me to do. As I live in the country most my finds are all on my property or adjacent properties that I have permission to hunt mostly when the fields are plowed. But I'm grateful I've found two gold items here, 3 silver coins, and many cool relics so not too bad for being stuck here mostly

Oh, my... what an emotional roller coaster! :laughing7:

Yes indeed it’s a special moment to think what do I have here..very nice congratulations

Haha those are the worst. I got one of those General Mills Olympics token from a 1990s cereal box in an 1880s yard. Turns out I also got a Morgan in that yard on a later hunt so it all worked out lol.
