🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Trip to Turks &Cacios Islands

On a trip to Turks & Cacios Islands I found this spike in the coral rock while diving for food on the west coast of Grand Turk Island. Nautical archeologists nor the museum people could not identify the origin or date it. The cross must indicate what country it comes from. It appears to be made from copper and Nical as it is shiney. There was no sign of a wrecked ship in the area so I figured it was something that floated in. I was only 100 yds from the beach.

My guess would be some type of nail spike for boating that does not rust

not sure how long your nail is, and dont see a cross, did find this site
maybe Mr. Jones has some info

In your other post on the same subject I gave you several leads to explore and a guess as to what it is. Did you use any of those? Find anything?

Kind of odd that there’s no tarnish. Did you consider possibly it’s made of gold?

I thought of it ! It’s really shiney on the tip. I’ve been watching those gold hunting down under too much. I would really like to find one those machines that tell you what metal is in it. I live in a small town on the Oregon coast.

I thought the spike might be connected to the molasses reef wreck and Colombuses ship the Pinta but bronze was not used on ships until mid 1700s. I left before these things happened so I cant comment.

I lived in Brookings in 98, 99 and part of 2000 until it sunk in that it was a town of tourist and retirees. In that 2 1/2 years I about lost my life savings trying to stay afloat working minimum wage. I was actually there 3 weeks ago showing relatives the redwoods up north bank, the Harbor and Harris beach. Had lunch at Fat Irish. That was a total flop. When I lived there it was a 60 mile round trip to Crescent City just to get a Whopper and fries. 😂

Yes, should have taken a look at all the treasures to be found in the Oregon wilderness such as gourmet mushrooms. Leave the tourists and retires behind and have some real fun. I’m 78 and I’m not retired .Ill retire when I am dead. We have whoppers now. I never had one.
