Hi There,
I've got four identical old Arab coins that I'm struggling to identify, at least I think they are Arab. I've attached a couple of pics and would appreciate any ideas. The coins weigh 3.70 grammes and have a diameter of 21 mm. I think they are made of silver.

Thanks for your help guys.

Looks like an Egyptian 5/10 Qirsh. Year 29 of Abdul Hamid II, 1903. Same weight and diameter from my books, made of copper/nickel

Yep, Egyptian and also copper-nickel.

Thank you guys,
I've got several other Islamic coins and am looking for a good reference book to help identify them. Can anyone recommend one?
Cheers

Krause Publications, World Coins
World Coins 1901 to date
Older Coins
Check feeBay or your used book stores for older versions, if for id purposes only.

fo some odd reason, it looks like a giant coin the way you picture it. by giant i mean the size of a good quality C300 rim. i could imagine, someone carrying these things on the camels back-in-the-day, busting their backs.

It is worth about $2.

It's a 5 "quirsh" (piaster) coin. And yes, the year is 1293 (hijri). That's 1876 by the Gregorian calendar.

Face value is about 1/2 of an American cent. Not much, if any, collector's value over here.

It is year 29 though of the King, so the date is later than 1876.

It is only 21 mm.

Ottoman Empire tughra, ١٢٩٣, 1293 accession date, ٢٩, 29th regnal year 1903, is what I see...:icon_scratch: Another note, I did not find gold in PA today, but I did buy a Powerball, if I win drinks are on me next week :laughing7:

Looks to me, regnal year under the tughra. I am not a Hijri scholar, so I am going by what my coin books say as far as dates. KM#291 Did not win the Powerball, will still buy a round after hunting for anyone interested :icon_thumleft:
