Went to a new spot settled in the late 1700's and found three flat button, two buckles and two old coins. It's a really big spot so there has to be more finds. The silver dime and penny came from a path nearby. Two of the flat buttons are the biggest I ever found. image-3149571705.webp image-1603216823.webp image-4223158583.webp image-2550229418.webp image-4145066590.webp

I had a few of them last year....never anything on them...blanks.

At least you got a silver.

Yup blanks. I was happy I found two. Silver was a nice bonus! :)

Nice finds! Looks like you're on a pretty early site.

Great finds Kiddo! Thanks for sharing...

At this point, I would be happy with "blanks". Aqua is just jaded with the mind blowing buttons he has found this past winter, lol. Great finds. Hope you get more soon!

Nice, just love the old big buttons. HH

I know there's got to be old silver and lots more finds there. To bad I got busy work now and won't get out for quite awhile. The spots huge and safe though. Private property and kinda maintained so even if the grass comes I can hunt it. Three cellar hole depressions on the land too.

Sounds like a very promising site. I'm sure there's more there to find. It's nice that you don't have to rush to get back there.

I look at those just like I would a George II copper.... because the button was on his coat, and coin likely in his pocket. Find the iron and you will do well.

There was lots of signs of old activity there! :)

I would gladly trade that spot for my next location, wherever that may be. At least I would right now! :)

I have some really good spots ready but my work gets super busy now so I can't hunt for awhile! :(

I doubt the finds are going anywhere, and it's much more satisfying and relaxing when you get what you need to get done, and then hunt.

They look like dandy buttons. The CannonBallGuy told me a bit about them last year when I found a few myself. I believe he said the larger ones (~28mm+) are older, 1770-90, and they get progressively smaller leading up to the 1830s. "Dandy" buttons were so named because they were worn by "dandies" - aristocratic-type people who dressed elegantly during their daily lives. They may be brass but also are found in tombac, an imported zinc alloy.

Keep hunting that site, you've established there were people there in the late 18th century. Bound to be some period coins there too.
