Two Indians from 1800's One Room Schoolhouse Site
A friend tells me that theres an old falling down, one room schoolhouse sitting on the edge of her property and she gets my undivided attention. LOL I then learn that it was MOVED there sometime back in the 50's and used by the farmer who owned the land as a storage shed and that it originally sat about a half a mile away. Well, my 1856 surveyors map shows the location and a trip to the courthouse and an aerial view/property owners plat map shows the original site to be owned by our local township. Love the research BB..
After getting permission from the township trustee to detect the woods in the area where the schoolhouse originally sat i was excited to start swinging. The briars are four feet high and it is tough detecting but a couple of hours in the woods turned up two nice keepers. I've added a picture of the schoolhouse as it looks today and a step by step cleaning of the '82 Indian head using ammonia and olive oil(thanks Bob). At the original schoolhouse site sits a township storage garage(not picture worthy). It will be several days before i get the chance to go back but will post any future finds. Thanks for havin a look!!
