This week I obtained two $100 nickel boxes from my local bank, both sealed H. F. String boxes.
I found:
1938, 1940 (2), 1940-S, 1941-D, 1942-D, 1946-D, 1947, 1947-S, 1948 (2), 1948-D (2), 1949 (2), 1951, 1952, 1953, 1953-D (4), 1954-S, 1955-D, 1956, 1957 (2), 1957-D (4), 1958-D (6), 1959-D (3).
Among the miscellany, there was a proof 1986-S nickel, and what appear to be uncirculated 1960-D, and 1961-D nickels. There were also a few foreign coins: Canadian five cent coins dated 1957, 1983, and 1995, a Bahamas five cent coin dated 2004, and a Mexico fifty centavos dated 2007. Also, there were two clad dimes and four cents in the place of nickels in the rolls.
While I found a smaller number of keepers than last week, and no war nickels, the fact that I found three pre-1955 "S"-minted coins, as well as the proof nickel, and filled seven empty spaces in the 1938-1961 set, makes this seem like a fairly good batch.
Again, as with last week, I found one 1971 nickel.
Thanks to all for the excellent posts.
