I'd like to see closer pics of object #1, both front & back, plus the size. I think I know what it is, but would to see better photos. Nice finds, Breezie

With the tobacco motif on the first item I might suspect it was originally part of an embellished pipe.

Since there are no new pics, from what I can see, it appears to be a late Victorian 'crumb or ash' rake tray/pan handle. If the items embossed are indeed cigars, then it was used for ashes; if the items are cut wheat stalks, then for crumbs. Some of the crumb rake pans had the handle built in and some were separate. I can see 2 screw holes in yours, so yours was a 2-pc. tray.

Item #2 looks like an 'match striker.' They were hung on the wall near the wood cook stove or fireplace. Is there any type of pocket on the back? If not, it may be a relief of a French or Italian Explorer or Trapper. You may want to research Explorers for MT. Your dude has a Marco Polo look.
Nice finds, Breezie

Ok, here are pics of the backside of both objects. I put a quarter next to the silver emblem thingy for size comparison. Ive checked both with magnifing glass and can see no writing on the back of either whatsoever.

Where did you find or obtain these items? How long have you had them? We need any clue we can get.

I think the cigar item could have been at one time a circular band. Could it have banded a bundle of cigars like the image?

I see three tiny nail holes in the man. Could they be for a chain?

The smaller piece looks like it might have decoration on a cigar box.

The larger piece looks like the Zig Zag Man, :headbang:

OH! ok, these were found near Butte Montana at a townsite that was at it's peak from the 1880s to the 1890s, the town died out when the stock market crashed near the turn of the century and the price of silver took a dive. The town was supported by silver mines. I have found several civil war era buttons and seated coins, and barber coins. The newest coin i have found there was a 1930 d wheat penny, and the oldest coin i have found was a Chinese coin minted in the 1700s. Check out my post in "My Best Finds" under "Butte Montana" finds to see the types of items i have found in the area, if u think that might help! thanks for the replies!
I found them begining of the mounth of april.

I cant figure out who the man is. Does he have a blanket wrapped around him? Its the same pattern wrapped on his head. :icon_scratch:

Now that I see a closer pic of back/front and the size of item #1, I will rule out an ash/crumb tray handle as I originally thought. It is too small.

Since it is silver, I think it is an antique cigar box decoration piece. It could have been tacked to the top or side of a wooden cigar box/humidor.

As far as item #2, I still think it looks like Marco Polo.

Breezie Is right, number 1 is off a cigar box , the old wooden type that you used to get them in. I still have a few from my grandfather that he had. The piece you have looks almost like what is on two of mine.
They where shipped in these boxes as it kept them fresh , the boxes still have the smell of the cigars that came in them after 60 some odd years.

I can see a "cigar humidor" being made with sterling silver hardware but not a "cigar box" which is a retail package sold full of cigars. There is a difference. HUMIDORS are boxes purchased empty and used to store cigars at home or the office. Please show me an example of a cigar box with silver hardware. The photo Breezie provided is a humidor.

I do agree with the face looking like Marco Polo.

BTW- Reply number four-
