Last fall I had made a couple of trips to a site I had found on an 1862 map, central ohio. The site was not shown on the 1875 map. There was plenty of targets, iron that is. I was lucky enough to find two shield nickels, but they were crusty. I soaked for months in olive oil with little luck on cleaning, very frustrating. I saw someone online that had cleaned his and he told me that he used an SOS pad. So I tried it and was able to clean enough to get dates. 1866 and 67. If you notice, the 66 has lines (rays) between the stars.
