two sided metates

The only thing that bothers me with that is now that is the only way they can ever be appreciated.
No one will ever hold or otherwise display one of those again.

Richard...those are called Rain rocks out here and were sacred ceremonial pieces...not metates..:icon_thumleft:

Grimes Point Archaeological Area, a Photo Gallery

Actually Cody it is a double sided nutting stone. I dug it and numerous ones from rock shelters where they gathered the ritual fall nuts. That particular one was actually studied by Archeologist who were studying them for a research paper on the south east. Southern lingo and western lingo do not mesh on these. I should have posted one like this. My bad.

My great grand father gathered bowls(metates/mortars)for many years from our place and had over 50 of the most unreal ones have ever seen.I remember them well at the original homestead. When he was killed and the moved Ma-mah into town my grand mothers sister took them to her place and promised them to me.......I looked forward to the day for most of my life when I could have them.A cousin was at my place and seen a few I had around my house, and he went right to my aunts and she gave them all to him......he CEMENTED them into a wall in his back yard!!!!!!Then SOLD the place...I didnt know till quite a few years later....and I still have not spoke to either of them, and never will

That is such a shame!
That would make me downright mad.. I'm sorry to hear that.
