Finally had a chance today to get out for an hour and a half. Got a new area. First few minutes were pretty void of any targets, so it wasn't looking good. After a half hour or so what looked like a bent flat button came out. Decided to stay in that area. Soon got a small silver disc. Was really hoping it was a seated half dime. Then, 10 minutes later another small silver disc. Could it be two seated half dimes?

Three Indian Head cents also came out.

Got home and started cleaning the silver... first one was an 1893 Canada 5 cent silver. Ok, that'll do, but let's get this 2nd one to be a Seated... It's also a Canadian 5 cent silver - 1888.

Would have loved some seated, but these silvers will do! Also got a gold plated ring. The IHCs are toast, but one date is 1880, can't see the others. HH all!

got a new phone so working on the focus. Will work on it!

Sweet sterling silver coins. I live in Canada and never dug a Canadian victorian 5 cent yet and you got two. I only got Vicky dime and quarter so far. Great finds! :)

Yep, they're even tough to find up here, let alone in the states.
You never know what's going to show up, nice finds!

Thanks! Unfortunately, that's the best they will get with soap and water. The soil wasn't kind to the silver, and it was killer on the copper coins. I think without something abrasive, like polish, this is the best they'll get. Now I'm not sure which is best in this case, "original" or "seeing the detail."

And thanks Mainrelic! Good to see you getting out too this year.

I guess you never know what will come up wherever you are.

A olive oil soak may help make the crust softer if that's what's on them. It won't effect the silver and after a few days it may come off easier with your thumb nail or toothpick?

It's worth a shot. The one definitely has a little crust on it, but it seems like they also have some kind of grey discoloration that looks to be in the metal. Soaking in oil won't make it worse.

Don't know about the grey discoloration but if you let the oil soak long enough it will soak in the brown crust and may make it lift off pretty easy when it goes all the way through it if your lucky! :)
