My friend Lisa called me flipping out. She found a field and found all of these axes in the same area.she found a lifetime worth of artifacts in one day ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1429643616.088832.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1429643669.189903.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1429643713.160161.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1429643779.717787.webpnevwr seen this red material before looks very soft ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1429643837.271256.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1429643874.593289.webp

WOW !!! NICE FINDS

There's even a giant raised ridge in there holy cow

Yea if I hadn't gone an seen them all I wouldn't have believed it. I went out and found a ton of tools but no axe for me..... I thought my first axe was finally going to be found

Any idea what the small square shaped artifact was used for? Also the curved piece is there we believe was part of a bowl with small legs.

In the photos the rectangular piece looks like an adze.
The other piece looks like steatite "soapstone"

That looks like a steatite or soapstone lug handle from a bowl... What state are you from? Ive seen very similar lugs from here in Pa And over the river in New Jersey...

wow..very nice

I would be back at that site with a probe if it is allowed. Super great finds of a lifetime.:notworthy:

Padirtdigger: I'm from Maryland
Gator boy what was an adze used for?

It was used basically like a wood chisel but mounted perpendicular on the handle so that it was swung into the piece of wood.. They were used a lot in manufacturing dugout canoes and I'm sure other prepared wood objects

I want to go hunting with Lisa! :laughing7: All joking aside, very nice finds!

Keep that field in your memory banks and return often...especially after a good rain.

Villagenut: field had just been plowed and we got 5+ inches of rain in the last 2 days

With all those axe heads a lot of time was spent there there's bound to be more stuff and a camp somewhere around there.
I really like the idea of using a probe

That is the lug end from a steatite vessel. The curved portion is part of the vessel wall.
