Unexpected Find.

To others it's a "meh" find, but for me and where I found it, is so very cool.
I popped the plug and the dang thing did a spin for me at the bottom of the hole.

Cool find, You never know? Actually that doesn't seem that surprising, though. That path must be extremely old. Probably no one ever thought of metal dectecting it. Would be my guess.

Nice going on the LC
1918 was the year my father was born.
Hydrogen Peroxide takes that crud off many times.
You might get an old silver from the pathway.

Wow. From what I found, that's the last year of the King George V 1 cent. That's a keeper too.

The surrounding area was developed into residential homes starting in 1968. I remember as a young guy, it was a swampy/marshy lowland bog without anything there.

Yeah it could be that. The only thing remotely developed in the area at that time is a railway track about 200 yards from the dig. Could it have been a drop from a railroad worker maybe? Having a lunch in the lower grade area and oops! I'm going back later this evening for a deeper scan into the path.

More than likely the coin was brought in with fill dirt from another area when they developed the land.

I went back out near where I dug up the 1918 cent days ago. I found another one!


I had a bottle of water and a tooth brush and cleaned it before I put the camera on it.
The little brown bottle is in pristine shape and buried fairly deep. The square bolt might be from the railroad track nearby maybe? And the pipe in the bottom corner was a cool find too.

Yes but you said..." it was a swampy/marshy lowland bog without anything there..." so for them to develop the land and build on it a lot of fill dirt had to be trucked in and the area built up, so it's very likely IMHO that what you're finding could be from the fill dirt.

Finding some industrial pieces there too. Not like at the higher grade. Well, If dirt was pushed there, it was done before the 60's. The treeline had a fairly old growth there, so no dirt moving was possible unless it was before that period. So to push dirt from that direction means they would've had to push it between the trees from more swampy area to develop what they have now. So not sure that happened. Maybe a perfect place to sit and have lunch and a bottle of Scotch Whisky when on the RR. Who really knows though.

No school around there. The path is used more for people walking their dogs. Sadly there have been homeless people seen within the treeline. No one goes there at night I think. Pretty creepy along that strip. However the human traffic through there I believe was a shortcut to get to the mall about 1/2 mile on the other side of the tracks, as there was no sidewalk there.

I have been thinking on getting permissions just west of that area. Maybe someone there remembers how that area was used.

Today I decided to go finish up the old path where I found some time capsules. It took three visits, but I believe it's fished out now. Oddly, all the old finds were located to around this old willow tree.
The backing was brass btw.
