Dug these items a couple of years apart and In different locations. The area had been logged so I’m assuming that one of the pieces got moved then. Unidentified items are from an 1812 Battlefield. I had no luck finding out what half of it was, but now that I have both half’s maybe someone can identify it.

Thanks for posting. Now that is interesting. And heavy duty. I am sure someone will come along and have a good idea what it is. Someone will know or venture a guess and get others to digging and then likely the right solution will be reached. It looks like some kind of coupling to me, but I am not making that call right now.

One of the suggestions I have had was it was a sight off of a small canon or swivel gun due to the notches in the uprights. Sounds feasible, but I’m not totally convinced knowing the area I found them and my research on the battle.

What,s cool to me is your finding matching pieces of a broken item years and a distance apart. What,s the odds on that? I have no idea what it is but appears to be made to move,as if it sat on a post or bolt and swiveled.I,m assuming it has no threads on the inside? A guess, but something off a surveying instrument or the like?

You know what, that could be a swivel off a small cannon. If you cannot open the link punch in "brass bronze swivel cannon" on ebay. The Revolutionary War one is not exact same as your part but kind of same principle.
