I was looking through my bin of finds today and found a button that said Levistrauss a co. I looked online and could not find this variety Vintage Levi's Jeans Guide - Buttons. Any thoughts on what era it's from?

Thanks,

It is called a bachelor button for holding up suspenders...you had 6 to a pair of jeans...2 on the left front pocket,2 on the right and 2 centered on the back...don't know how old they are...thats what I used for my logging pants all the time..

I read a story about Levi Strauss using the ends of brass bullet casings for the original buttons. He would cut off the back of the brass casing and then punch out the used primer, then rivet that to the jeans.

Very cool find, coinman!

I've been unable to track that particular button style, in the interrupted history of Levi Strauss & Co. I agree it's a suspender button.

I think I know where you can find out for sure. Send good photos to Lynn Downey, the Historian for Levi's.

I've gotta hunch it's late 19th Century.

I forgot to ask what the back looked like...
