Yesterday I decided to head back to a woods spot I hunted once before.
I’ve found a couple of musket balls and square nails the last time I went there so I knew this site had potential.

When I dug this cross it was covered in dirt, but I knew it was Silver cause of the signal I got.

It was only when I cleaned it thou that I noticed it was a silversmiths handmade Cross.

No makers mark on it and don’t know the exact age of the Cross, but I love the art work on it.

Well this find surely made my Day.

I'm sure it's not necessary to remind most members, but putting "banner" in a reply is not the same as voting banner. It's the little red button top right that provides a tabulated banner vote.

(Just trying to figure out why this is taking so long to get to the top)

Very cool find!

Congrats on getting it up onto the Banner, it's an awesome pice of history.

A little anticlimactic at this point but well deserving all the same - congratulations!

That's just amazing! Congrats on a spectacular discovery :occasion14:

Two Robert Cruickshank banners in a row, must have been his birthday recently!

Congrats on the AWESOME piece!

YES!! Sweet justice!

Happy for you, Tony.

Just one or two more recent insufficiently lauded finds to go and the banner will be all squared away. :icon_thumright:

I just saw this piece.
'To much time spent typing, on other stuff'
What a 'Stunner ' of a Piece, it's of my opinion that wear on the Head of the crucifix , has worked to make the face look like the 'Classic Alien Grey Head'.
Other than a few ruff spots / cracks the Mary figure had nice detail left.

It's Very Unique , & again like the Banner Bracelet "out of my detecting League".

Well deserved Banner Dig.

P.S. Is it confirmed that the same Silver-Smith made the Bracelet (previous banner) ,& the Crucifix ?
Amazing if so imo.

What a 'Stunner ' of a Piece , IMO , The amount of wear made the face / hair distort to make it look like the 'Classic Grey Alien Head'.

Actually the Bracelet is a confirmed RC silversmith cause his mark is on it.
The Crucifix has no makers mark so unsure who the Silversmith is.

Awesome find. I didn’t see anyone else mention that inri in Hebrew translates to “lord”. Im sure you most likely knew that but I couldn’t resist. That’s super cool and I hope you find more.

The skull on the bottom of the cross gives it away as being very old - late 19th century and prior would have had this, you don't really find the skull on the bottom of crucifixes past the late 1800's. Some crucifixes I've seen as late as the 1920's still having the skull but by then it was the exception and I've never seen them on any modern crucifix. Very VERY interesting. :notworthy:
