I was searching my back yard this afternoon with a Bounty Hunter 202 and a Discovery 3 and popped out .87 cents and some trash. Figured I'd post some pics for everyone to see. I can't read the date, but there is an "S" and "M" on the lower front where the date use to be. Acording to Wikipedia, the quarter is a Standing Liberty Quarter Series 2 minted between 1917-1930 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_Liberty_quarter
Enjoy and feel free to post some comments.

That quarter is a standing liberty variety 2 the 3 stars, variety 1 no stars..... minted 1917-1930 designed by Hermon A. MacNeil the M is for his last name.... the date is the first thing to ware off on that coin

Awesome! Thanks :D This will go into my collection of Mercury dimes and wheat pennies.

Nice Silver! The 'S' is San Francisco Mintmark, as far as I know usually the lowest mintages. Congrats!!
