Unknown item with keyhole

I came up empty on a search before posting, as I don't know what to call this. Looks to have a skeleton keyhole.

Found on a 1750's log home farm site where a civil war skirmish occurred.

Looks a bit like the 1850 Thompson's by the escutcheon around the keyhole. Not a 100% match though.
