Unknown Medallion found at local school dating from early 1900'S

Found this old Medallion today and can't seem to figure out what its for or how old it is. Found it at a school dating from the early 1900's . Any help IDing would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!View attachment 1023158

Thanks for the close up. While I am not sure what the medallion is for yet, I'd like to suggest that you do not hold items you are taking pictures of. As you can tell the camera tends to focus on your fingers and not the item. Sorry to nit pick but sometimes small details in an item can aid in research. If the item is dark in color I suggest laying it on a white piece of paper for contrast.

With respect; using a light/white background detracts from the detail of the object rather than enhancing it. Better to place item on a darker background, eg dark blue, and use natural light where possible, as opposed to flash.
